How can you rebuild your life when you lose both a parent and your homeland as an 8-year-old child? Nadia Nadim, whose father was killed by the Taliban, escaped war-torn Kabul with her mother and four sisters. After relocating to Denmark, a passion for soccer helped Nadia thrive in her new country, eventually becoming a striker for the national team and the elite Paris Saint-Germain Football Club.

Now, having reached the top of her game, Nadia yearns to return to Afghanistan to uncover details about her father’s fate. But with the region still under the grips of terrorism, the trip seems too dangerous, leaving Nadia to forge ahead with her plans to become a reconstructive surgeon.
