THE REAL IN FAIRYTALES is a collection of five short films from New York hyphenate Jadina Lilien, a photographer-filmmaker-writer. Dealing with the themes of love, loss, fantasy, and heritage in a city where the mishmash of cultures can sometimes be alienating, Lilien is able to add a sparkle of auteur magic and wonder to the already commendable performances delivered by her actors in this series. Included here are: "Ricky and Lenny", "Marie", "Happily Ever After", "The Kingdom Within", and the underground gem "Fortune's Fool".
From the Director:
"We live in a world inundated with distractions but behind all this activity is the rich world of the imagination. In THE REAL IN FAIRYTALES I have blended together documentary and narrative styles of filmmaking to tell the story of the magic in life that can often be hidden by outer circumstances.. My intention in these films is to draw back the veils of separation between the inner and the outer world and make how these meet visible. This intersection is what interests me, because it is not controlled by the limitation of the conscious mind -- what emerges is a vitality that is pure and untouched, giving the films an intimate quality, as if revealing a secret."
